Customers have a vast array of options when making a decision as to what type of roofing best fits their needs. Architectural Shingle- A type of asphalt shingle that provides a dimensional appearance.

Built-up Roof- A continuous, semi-flexible multi-ply roof, consisting of plies of layers of saturated felts, coated felts, fabrics or fiberglass mats between which alternate a layers of bitumen(tar) are applied.

Composition Shingle- Asphalt shingle roofing.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer – (EPDM)- A rubber membrane used for roofing usually grey/black in color. Seamed together with either a butyl tape or an adhesive.

Hypalon – (CSPE) – Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene –A synthetic rubber like material, seamed together by hot air welding, usually white in color.

Dimensional Shingle- A shingle that is textured, overlaid, or laminated and designed to produce a three-dimensional effect. (See Architectural shingle).

Modified Bitumen- Composite sheets consisting of polymer modified bitumen often reinforced and sometimes surfaced with various types of mats, films, foils and mineral granules, installed by either torch-on use of hot asphalt or asphalt-based adhesives.

Polyvinyl Chloride – (PVC)– A synthetic thermoplastic polymer membrane prepared from vinyl chloride, seamed together by hot air welding, mainly white but available in colors.

Slate- A hard, brittle metamorphic rock consisting mainly of clay material used extensively as dimensional stone for steep roofing and in granular form as surfacing on some other roofing materials.

Standing Seam- A metal roof system that consists of an overlapping or interlocking seam that occurs at an upturned rib. Panels are held down with a concealed clip or fastener that is hidden in the seam.

Thermoplastic Olefin – (TPO)- A blend of polypropylene and ethylene-propylene polymers membrane seamed together by hot air welding, mainly white but available in colors.

Wood Shake– Hand split or sawn wood (usually cedar) various widths and usually 24” long. Sawn shakes are typically uniformly ¾” thick at the butt end (exposed end). Hand splits run approximately ¾” to 1 ½” at the butt end.

Wood Shingle– Sawn wood various widths and runs from 16” to 24” long. Wood shingles come in a uniform thickness of ½” at the butt end.
